I have just returned from Palmetto Place, a mobile home development off US1 by the Sheriffs Dept., and the Industrial Park. As I type this it’s raining hard still but thankfully dry back home. Within the last hour I can only describe it as a tornado touched down causing damage to about half a dozen homes in this area. From what I can see the damage was superficial and consisted in fences down, siding off homes, trees down and minor damage. There appeared not to be any over turned homes and personal injury.
I was there as a Skywarn opperative and also as a CERT team member, trying to see if I could be of assistance. The Sheriffs Dept., also arrived at the location and there really wasn’t any further need for my assistance.
So here I am now putting this information on the site, which just shows how with some FREE training for both Skywarn and CERT I was able to be there and help if needed. I feel we need more people out there, being available to help in cases of emergency. Thankfully this time it wasn’t life threatening, but next time who knows, so it’s better to be ready.
If you are interested in more information re these please contact Perry on the contact numbers above, and be there to help if needed.
We will have to look in the morning with daylight to see the final damage, but I hope everyone isn’t too shaken up.
Be warned we are still in a tornado alert tonight.
