Friday March 18 and Saturday 19, 2022

A squall line of strong to isolated severe thunderstorms will traverse the Deep South this afternoon and will impact southeast GA and northern portions of the Suwannee Valley early this evening before weakening overnight. A more widespread round of strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible along a cold front that will be moving across our region on Saturday afternoon and evening.

Our daily weather briefing is enhanced to highlight these potential weather impacts through Saturday evening.

Late this Afternoon & Evening

A squall line containing strong to isolated severe thunderstorms will move east-southeastward across southeast GA late this afternoon through early this evening, with activity pushing across northern portions of the Suwannee Valley early this evening. Stronger storms embedded within this squall line will be capable of producing 40-60 mph wind gusts and hail, and an isolated tornado will also be possible. This squall line is expected to weaken as it approaches the I-95 corridor in southeast GA after sunset and should weaken west of metropolitan Jacksonville early this evening.

Saturday Afternoon and Evening

A cold front will move across our region, accompanied by strong winds aloft that will enhance the threat for strong to severe thunderstorm development during the afternoon and early evening hours. Scattered severe thunderstorms will be possible across southeast GA and the Suwannee Valley on Saturday afternoon, with isolated severe thunderstorms possibly progressing eastward towards the I-95 corridor during the early evening hours. The primary threats will be strong wind gusts of 50 – 70 mph, hail, and isolated tornadoes.
