Two new starts occurred Sunday west of 441. Initial attack was conducted by Georgia Forestry Commission with ground support from Rayonier Timber Co and air support from the Georgia Incident Management Team. Today, crews will continue to reinforce fire lines, patrol the fire perimeter, mop-up hot spots and assist with initial attack on any new fire starts.

To provide for firefighter and public safety, the public is urged to avoid areas where fire equipment is operating. Also, root systems of trees may be weakened from fires and the trees may fall. Please use caution around trees in the fire area.

Fire crews from over 47 states are assisting the Georgia Forestry Commission and the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge with suppressing fires. Assistance from these outside resources will help provide much needed rest for local fire crews and help contain these fires much quicker.
