Major Hurricane Matthew Briefing Situation Overview
- At 11 AM Monday, Major Hurricane Matthew was about 205 miles SE of Kingston, Jamaica moving
north around 6 mph. Maximum sustained winds were 140 mph. - As the storm tracks northward toward the Bahamas through Wednesday, an increase in northeast
wind is expected, even well outside of the hurricane. Coastal impacts including strong winds, high
surf, beach erosion and waves of heavy rainfall are possible. - Based on the latest forecast, tropical storm conditions could impact the adjacent Atlantic waters
Wednesday night, and then NE Florida and SE Georgia Thursday through Saturday. - Matthew’s future forecasts should continue to be closely monitored, as a shift in the track toward
the west will increase local impacts.
