Ware County Community Emergency Response Team & Satilla Medical Reserve Corps National Preparedness Month’s Safety Day Event
Saturday morning September 22, around 10:15 a.m. a lot of activity was going on in Waycross. Ware County 9-1-1 dispatch received a call from Lowe’s Home Improvement on Memorial Drive. and the caller stated that a pedestrian was hit by a truck and thrown onto the pavement. Ware County 9-1-1 dispatched the appropriate public safety agencies to the scene. Ware County Emergency Medical Service arrived on scene with Paramedic Troy Humbers and EMT-I Nick Johnson who started performing patient care. Waycross Fire/Rescue arrived along with the Waycross Police department shortly after and assisted the Emergency Medical Service. Waycross Fire/Rescue Battalion Chief Morris Clark and his personnel set up a secure landing zone in the parking lot for the Air Evac medical helicopter to land. The Waycross Police department investigated the accident and officers also helped secure the entrances to the parking lot for the medical helicopter. Pilot Jim DeNigris landed the Air Evac medical helicopter and flight nurse Anita Gardner along with flight paramedic Richard Johnson went to the ambulance to prepare the trauma victim for the flight. The trauma victim was then loaded into the Air Evac medical helicopter and transferred to a near by trauma center and survived with limited disability thanks to the quick response and action of the Waycross/Ware County Public Safety agencies and Air Evac Life team.
